Description:
The second release in a two-month series! Alisa Weilerstein, the talented cellist of Decca's upcoming release, makes her first concerto recording in two years with her latest release, a cello concerto by the great 20th century composer Shostakovich. Composed late in his career and dedicated to Rostropovich, No. 1 is now often performed in concert as a cello masterpiece along with Elgar and Dvok, both of whom Wylerstein has also recorded. The second work, from the composer's later years, is even more unique to Shostakovich's style, with its many percussion instruments. The Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra will be accompanied by Pablo Elas-Casado, a native of Spain born in 1977. He is a conductor of great promise who has already made his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic. This is a commemorative recording of his visit to Japan. Recorded September 28-30, 2015, Herkulessaal, Munich [Performed by] Alisa Weilerstein (cello), Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Pablo Elas-Cassado, conductor.
