For more than two decades, the Vitra Design Museum has been producing miniature replicas of the most important pieces of its design furniture collection. The Miniatures Collection sums up the entire history of industrial furniture design, ranging from Historicism and Art Nouveau to Bauhaus and New Objectivity, from Radical Design and Postmodernism to the present day.Measuring exactly one-sixth the size of the historical originals, the chairs are all perfectly to scale and recreate the tiniest details of construction, material and colour with precision. The high standards of authenticity even include the natural grain of the wood, the reproduction of the screws and the replication of the elaborate craftsmanship. All this has made the miniatures popular collectors items and excellent teaching aids for universities, design schools and architects studios.
